The building encapsulates the economic vitality of merchants in the heart of Rodez Bourg (market town) which Hugues Daulhou was part of.
At the time, Rodez Bourg and City were two separate areas with a city wall between them.
Armagnac House grabs your attention in so many ways.
At first glance you’d think the Rodez building is Gothic in style: grotesques and a half-timbered corbelled construction adorn the house. But you soon realise that the building’s style is anything but ordinary! The Renaissance style has actually been enhanced by:

Place de l'Olmet à RodezArmagnac House looks over Place de l’Olmet in the centre of which stood an elm, a tree symbolising the count’s power whose palace (no longer standing) was on the other side of the street opposite Armagnac House.
So the building blends two architectural styles: Gothic and Renaissance.
Its style is what makes it unique and captures the personality of its amazing patron, Hugues Daulhou. On the corner of the outer façade, there’s an Annunciation to feast your eyes on.
